Indigenous Student Scholarship

Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarship 2017 : Applications closing soon

The Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarships provide financial assistance to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander preservice teachers to assist them to undertake and complete an education degree at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) and commence a teaching career in a Queensland state school. The Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarships are managed by the Department of Education and Training (DET) and aim  to identify high achieving individuals who are seeking to undertake an undergraduate degree in teaching. Scholarship recipients receive generous financial support, a guaranteed interview for employment and additional assistance during their studies to ensure they are well-prepared for their important future role. The scholarship program offers four categories:
 
·    Secondary school graduates – valued at up to $20,000
Recipients must have completed Year 12 in 2016 and be commencing an undergraduate initial teacher education program (such as a Bachelor of Education) at a Queensland HEI in Semester 1, 2017.
 
·    Postgraduate students – valued at up to $10,000
      Recipients must already hold a degree in a relevant field and be commencing or continuing a postgraduate initial teacher education program (such as a Graduate Diploma in Education) at a Queensland HEI in Semester 1, 2017.
 
·    Department of Education and Training employees – valued at up to $20,000Recipients must be employed in a non-teaching role with the Department of Education and Training and be enrolled in, commencing or continuing an undergraduate or postgraduate initial teacher education program (such as a Bachelor of Education or Graduate Diploma in Education) at a Queensland HEI in Semester 1, 2017.
 
·    Post-school studies – valued at up to $20,000
Recipients must be enrolled in, commencing or continuing an undergraduate or postgraduate initial teacher education program (such as a Bachelor of Education or Graduate Diploma in Education) at a Queensland HEI in Semester 1, 2017 and not meet the eligibility criteria for any of the above categories, for example mature age students.
